There are no rules in art!

However, for those of you looking for a place to begin, there are some basic steps you can follow that will speed up the learning process and allow you to achieve more successful paintings more quickly and more often. It’s also not a bad idea to develop a standard process when painting outside, as painting with limited time, many distractions, and often adverse weather conditions can provide challenges that can be reduced by having a clear path or plan.

Once you feel more confident, you should experiment and develop your own process.
